about

2022 was our twentieth anniversary as a band. a strange but stubbornly proud moment for a band who normally doesn't pay attention to that sort of thing.
but 20 years meant something and we wanted to celebrate with a new record and some shows.
we've never been able to do anything quickly so we started planning in 2020 while we all had a lot of time on our hands...

then brandon got sick in 2021.
he tried to be optimistic, we all did. but there was suddenly a clock hanging in the air that was hard to ignore.
but he wanted to keep busy during treatment and focusing on the anniversary was his way of staying sane.

so we did what we always did: he and i sat in the basement and wrote.
after a few months we had a skeleton to an album that we were able to bring to the rest of the band.

by the summer of 2022 time was up.
he wanted to spend what little time he had left working on the record he knew he wouldn't hear finished.
we set up a make-shift studio in the same basement where we all started making music as dumb kids and we recorded him playing his bass until he was satisfied with his parts.
a month later he was gone.

this record is a silence hanging heavy.
this record is a bargain for a little more time.
this record is remembering why we do this in the first place.
this record is a celebration.

this record was five days of recording in august of 2022 when he could still play.
this record was six months of recording in 2022/23 after he was no longer there.
this record is twenty years in an hour.
this record is an exclamation point, not a period.

thanks&thanks&thanks/tomorrow&tomorrow&tomorrow...

about

things falling apart De Kalb, Illinois

the sound of old tube amps humming like angels, buzzing helicopter tremolo dancing with rickety strings, drifting analog delay, and antiquated brass bursts of joy.
